Opera News dubbed UC San Diego Music Professor Anthony Davis "a national treasure" for his pioneering work in opera. Davis has created operas that address social and political issues in both historical and contemporary contexts, with emphasis on events and figures in American history involving issues of race and social justice. His latest opera The Central Park Five, an exploration of the wrongful conviction of five teenagers of color in NYC in the 1980s, received the 2020 Pulitzer Prize in Music.
