Sequencing the Human Genome: Prokaryotes with J. Craig Venter

J. Craig Venter is one of the most influential figures in genetic research. As a genetic scientist, Venter pioneered the use of the automated gene sequencer and in 1990 developed a new strategy for gene discovery and tagging that revolutionized the biological sciences. His vision, determination, and competitive spirit greatly accelerated the mapping of the human genome. The discovery will help decipher the genetic basis of several diseases and possibly revolutionize medicine in the future. (#23346)
