Kumar Patel came to UCLA from a successful career at Bell Labs. He invented the carbon dioxide laser and has been nominated for a Nobel Prize multiple times. Patel is a professor of physics with a joint appointment in electrical engineering at UCLA. He served as UCLA's vice chancellor for research through 1999. (#24768)
