Medication Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder

Most people who could benefit from medications for opioid use disorder (OUD) do not receive them. Dr. Scott Steiger argues that OUD is a treatable chronic brain disease and should be handled accordingly. Medications for OUD are effective and save lives but they are not available to many people who need them; denying access to them is denying appropriate medical treatment.
