Controversies and Risks of Genetically Modified Foods and Herbicides with Dave Schubert and Paul J. Mills — UC Wellbeing Channel

5/8/2017; 29 minutes

Neurobiologist Dave Schubert, a Professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies who built his career discovering drug treatments for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, warns of potentially harmful health effects of the herbicides that are sprayed on genetically modified (GM) foods. In this conversation with Paul J. Mills of UC San Diego, Dr. Schubert details his concerns about glyphosate, a suspected carcinogen contained in the popular weedkiller Roundup that is sprayed on GM corn and GM soy, as well as on non-GM plants including wheat. He also dispels what he describes as six myths about the value of genetically modified foods, including that they increase yield and are less damaging to the environment than organic products.    (#32042)
