LA JOLLA, CA (8/13/2003) -- The University of California, San Diego Television (UCSD-TV) has been awarded an Aurora Award for outstanding achievement and broadcast/cable excellence. The program receiving the honor is "Trampling Out the Vintage," produced by UCSD-TV's John Menier. The Aurora Award winners were announced earlier this month.
"We are delighted that our programs continue to receive such high acclaim, both by winning awards and garnering praise from our viewers," said Lynn Burnstan, Managing Director of UCSD-TV.
"Trampling Out the Vintage" explores why the novel, written by John Steinbeck and winner of the 1939 Pulitzer Prize, still has a place in popular education and culture and how it can be used to bring Californians together to talk about the issues of today. The program weaves together actual historical audio recordings, period music, historical photography and interviews with Steinbeck biographers, historians and the author's son, Thomas Steinbeck.
The Aurora Awards is an international competition with entries from across the US, and abroad. These awards are designed to recognize excellence in the film and video industries, specifically targeting programs focused on regional or special interest entertainment. Competitors come from private and corporate production groups, advertising agencies and television stations throughout the country.
