The Science Matters series was created to educate the public about new developments in the biological sciences and to provide San Diego middle and high school science teachers and students with innovative resource material for classroom instruction.
The increasing importance of science in the lives of San Diegans demands that the local community be better informed about new developments in the biological and physical sciences. In addition, San Diego school teachers need additional resource material to help them illustrate basic scientific principles in the classroom and to demonstrate the relevance and application of many of these abstract principles to their students.
Science Matters addresses these distinct needs by presenting programs that feature professors in UCSD's Division of Biology. Each 30-minute program can be viewed in its entirety online in streaming video. In addition, Explore and Discover presents short video presentations for teachers and their students that feature UCSD scientists demonstrating those principles and illustrating how they are used in their work.
Support for this project was provided by The San Diego Foundation Reuben H.
Fleet Foundation Fund, UCSD's Division of Biology, UCSD-TV and the
University Communications Office at UCSD.
